boy visits ikea

I dragged boy with me to Ikea the other day for the first time.

He wasn't really that wowed until we got to the check out line and bought a 6 pack of cinnamon rolls for $4.

That was a deal he was impressed with.

Our nearest Ikea isn't super close and to top it off you have to get on the tollway.  Which about a month after your trip to Ikea, to buy a $2 colander, doesn't seem like such a good idea when the toll bill shows up in your mailbox for $6.

So, I don't head that way very often.  We just happened to be in the area of Ikea the other night and with only an hour and a half before it closed I convinced boy to make a quick stop.

It's very difficult to make a quick trip because the 320 sq ft. of super organized- all five rooms into one always lures me in and before I know it I'm saying things like "we could totally live in this" and "the pugs totally wouldn't mind sleeping on a lacquered shelf of our one bookcase".

I love Ikea.

I've kind of had a mental list going, all of items I can't pronounce by the way, that I wanted to pick up.  I'd really like to do a light tan slipcover on our ektorp chaise sofa in the gameroom and I love their towels and sheets.  But of course with my luck, I must have just missed a huge sale because they were out of everything.  I wanted to curl up on one of those ridiculous cute toddler sized beds and cry.

Dear Ikea, can you pretty please start selling everything online?

Of course I can't complete an Ikea trip with out buying the pugs a $.99 stuffed animal and boy spoke volumes of the cinnamon rolls so it was a stop well worth it.

here fishy fishy

I ordered myself one of those snazzy fisheye lenses that hooks to your iPhone thinking it might be fun.

I was right it's super fun and super addicting.  To the geniuses that invented these, can I give you a hug?

It's also fun chasing around pugs, who happen to be rocking their own fisheye look with those big buggy eyes.

Doesn't pug look so annoyed with me?

I ordered mine from here from Photojojo for 25 bucks.  They have some of the coolest camera gadgets. Now I'm just really bummed I didn't order the macro and telephoto too.

book shopping

With the house on the market and all the showings I've gotten quite a bit of reading done.  I've made it a habit to keep a book in the car at all times because I'm usually so exhausted from doing a quick vacuuming of the house, rushing to turn on lights, and wrangling pugs into the suv and would probably completely forget one if I didn't.  So the upside to all the crazy showings is my reading nook aka my car.

Here's what I've been read.  Some are memorable and some are forgettable and as always just my opinions.

Read:

"Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn-  I loved this book.  It's so creatively written and really addicting.  It's suspenseful and full of twists and turns.  Great beach read.

"50 Shades"- Forgive me but I did not love it and really wish I had not been talked into it and bought all 3 before I figured that out.  I know I'm kind of alone on making that statement, but the riskiness of it got old fast.  Probably my biggest complaint was how it was written.  It just felt like reading a really far fetched Lifetime movie over and over again and the typos throughout the book drove me crazy.  I know who am I to judge my blog is the king of spelling mishaps, but I'm not a New York Times Bestseller.  So, my apologizes if offending anyone just my two cents.  Thankfully, I sold them on ebay and broke even so hooray for that.

after I washed my head out with soap I picked up...

"Lethal" by Sandra Brown- I'm pretty sure this was my first Sandra B. novel and I have to say I get how people are hooked.  Loved the read...I may have to pick up another of hers...any suggestions?

"Skinnydipping" by Bethenny Frankel- I adore Bethenny and picked this up thinking it would be a good light read and thankfully it was even better than I had hoped.  Really well written...her quick wit that you see on tv is really picked up on the pages.  It's her first fiction and the story line is very loosely based on her own background.

Reading:

"Then Came You" by Jennifer Weiner- Also first time reading this author and although not very far into it I'm really enjoying it.

"Between Shades of Grey" by Ruta Septeys- Not to be confused with those other "shades".  Completely different read...this is a young adult historical fiction.  Beautifully written and would highly recommend adding this to your must read list.

So, what's on your nightstand, kindle, or if you're me...the car?  Love getting your great suggestions!

hello again

Hello bloggy world...bless your heart if you still read this.  I've been terrible about blogging for the last few months.  I'm afraid to even open up my google reader and attempt to dust off the cobwebs.

I just realized it will be 5 years this month that I started this blog.

Goodness gracious...how is that possible?

Let's see what have we been up to lately...

I caved and have been watching the Bachelorette this season.  What is wrong with me?  And what is wrong with some of these guys?  Now I'm hooked and I'm just going to have to ride this crazy train out.

We hit the lake this weekend.  I had boy take me tubing.  Now I can't walk.  Thanks to the fact I'm getting older and boy's definition of "don't drive too fast" is completely different then mine.  It ended with me flying through the air smacking into the water so hard that I almost lost the bottom of my swimsuit.  Thank goodness my eyes were closed the whole time because I'm sure it all wasn't a pretty site.  I see a trip to the chiropractor this week in my future.

Pug turns 7 this month.  And he's crazier than ever.   I type this as he's trying to jump on a table just to get my attention that it's dinner time.  I get it.

Our house is on the market.  This has been a fun experience.  We're looking at building not to terribly far from where we are now.  I'm just really tired of OCD cleaning my house everyday.  This one deserves a post on it's own.

I also need to do a book post.  Lots of reading going on during showings.  And I love a good book for the lake or pool.

So how are you?
